What is the Pediatric Gastroenterology Unit?

The Pediatric Gastroenterology Unit focuses on the diagnosis and treatment of digestive diseases and problems that affect newborns, children and adolescents, which involve the esophagus, stomach, small intestine, large intestine (colon), liver, gallbladder, and pancreas.

These include:

  • Chronic abdominal pain, diarrhea, constipation, growth problems, obestity and underweight.
  • Inflammatory diseases (Crohn's disease, colitis)
  • Celiac disease
  • Underabsorption problems
  • Flatulence, recurrent vomiting, and gastroesophageal reflux
  • Gastrointestinal bleeding


Procedures Carried out in the Unit:
• Endoscopy: gastroscopy, colonoscopy
• Removal of polyps in the digestive tract.
• Removal of foreign bodies.
• Treatment of bleeding in the digestive tract.

What do I need to bring for the procedure?
You need to bring the following documents:

  1. Referral from doctor
  2. ID card or other identifying document
  3. Relevant medical documents
  4. Recent blood tests (complete blood count, coagulation function, blood biochemistry)
  5. Statement from the attending physician that the child is healthy and may undertake the recommended procedure
  6. Statement by the anesthesiologist who examined the child in the pre-operative clinic
  7. Payment voucher from the health fund (Form 17) or alternatively check / credit card / cash


  • The youngster must be accompanied by his/her parents (who will sign the medical release form.
  • The youngster must completely refrain from eating or drinking 6 hours before the procedure.
  • In the case of a colonoscopy, it is essential to follow the instructions given by the physician.
